OpenOffice integration

This is not a feature request, because I know it is science-fiction compared to the huge work that is to be done for the next versions.

I just wondered if anybody mentionned the integration of OpenOffice documents yet?

For version 4.00 for instance...

Hiya

Actually I have a PHP-GTK application that converts a writer file into wiki syntax and then gives you the option to XMLRPC send it to a TikiWiki site.

I use OpenOffice every day 😀

It can be very useful to put this in mods as people seems to be interested?

A nice feature would be: I'm travelling in the train, so I prepare my next blog on my laptop, with openoffice. When I'm home I upload this file to my tiki site, and it can become a blog.

Other example: One of your users calls you because he has a great announcement to make and he has no clue how to create an article in tiki. No problemo, in openoffice he sees a button "Send to tiki", and there he meets a nice UI with "create an article".

Other example; Admin can set "Dump" function in the wiki to export to openoffice exclusively.

Apart of the technicalities of integrating xml in tiki, this import-export of openoffice integrates off line working in a cms, and that is a complete new psychological universe.

All this can already be done using a local setup of TikiWiki and then using the Send/Receive objects feature already within TikiWiki.

This allows you to prefer good content "offline" some the live site and then send it when your able to connect.

Ive given training using this method to several clients already and they think its wonderful.

I have some open office routines already. I'll try and setup a mods.tw.o project or something in the near future for them

I'm also VERY interesrted in this kind of mod, Damian!

The main two problems we are facing with the use of a wiki (from Tikiwiki, in our case 😉) with students to ease them their task to write papers/works/assignments in groups, are:

(1) Many of them still work off-line much of their time (not enough computers at uni, or at home, connected to the internet...), and it's not easy for them (novice wiki users) if they can only edit things with format while being online.

(2) at the end of their work, they cannot export it easily & keeing the format to OpenOffice, so taht they can paginate things, make advanced tables, ilustrations, referecens, etc.

I'd like to know about the chance to have some import/export features from Tiki to OOo and viceversa. Like the ones already exposed at: TikiDavDev (i wrote them there previously): UniWakka Wiki (http://uniwakka.sourceforge.net/) which already has import and export between their wiki to OOo..., phpdocwriter functions, oooserver, WordtoWiki macro translated to OOoWriter, your mod-Damian, ... The export feature, moreover, would help on producing nice pdf out of Wiki pages, once the Wiki content is on OOo ...

How much effort would you think, Damian, Sylvie, or other dev's, that would be needed to include those import/export functions between OOo and Tiki? (maybe the easiest way to start with would be to adapt this feature from "UniWakka Wiki"software 😊

How much money would we need to get to pay for your work to do it? (to pay to whoever take care of it)

I can contribute with some money for that, and some other people might help to achieve this goal...😊

(Hey, forums in tw.o are kind-pof-buggy right now! I wanted to edit my previous post (to correct some misswritting), And I cannot post the edition, nor cancel the edition of my previous post through the normal "cancel" button. I resend my previous post, with misspelled words corrected)

for the time being, jreyes (Javier Reyes) already adapted the xlst from uniwakka to the tikiwiki syntax... and it works for OOo on windows, and very soon, I guess, for Linux. Aks him (which is the real computer scientis, not me, which I'm a simple tester) for the file and his adaptations, if anybody interested. UserPagejreyes, + TikiDavDev

I'm thinking very much about that, because we want to use Tiki really for everything. I even would prefer OOo-Features in the browserbases surface, but - okay.
But what I'd like to have is an automatic mirrorlike copy of every tikipage in a OOo (or Word)-Doc, PDF and back.
This would allow coworkers to use their way and not to transfer anything manually.

So: I AM interested in your efforts.
