Features / Usability

linking menu to wikipages

I'm new. I've been trying to build a menu, place in a module, and place on the left column. Got it show in the right place. I can't get the menu to point to a page correctly, it keeps saying "no page indicated". I am using tiki-index.php?page=MyPage in the URL. What is section? the feature being used? If I want an anonymous user to be able to use the menu, what permssion is that? Are there better instructions for using menu's after they are created?

There are probably many ways to do this, but the links option in the Admin menu lets you set up as many URLs as you'd like and title them for user display. Using a Wiki page to give a general set of links might work for you if you had many pages that fell into a category that you wanted displayed in the Featured Links module. You do have to use the complete URL to identify the page.

Your URL appears to be the right form. "Sections" refers to Tiki features, such as feature_wiki, feature_galleries, etc. I'm not sure why this needs to be specified for menu items. They work fine without the section being filled in, in my experience. I guess your question about features is related to this. Did you look at Tiki's default menus to see how each menu item is input? That's where I got the feature names that I input. But as I said, specifying sections (features) or not didn't seem to have any effect for me.

I can't see why you're getting that error message. What is the full URL for the links in your new menu? That is, if you "copy link address" for one of the items, does it give you the correct address, identical to the URL of the page that you know works? What if you add an item to your menu that's exactly the same as at item in Tiki's default menu, each specification the same as the original, and check if the new link works for that page?

There isn't a specific user permission for menus. But you do need to make sure the module containing the menu is visible to Anonymous users. Do that on the Module admin page. Can you see the menu module when not you're not logged in?

I'm not sure what documentation there is for menus, beyond checking the obvious possibilities here and at doc.tikiwiki.org. As with most features, the development has progressed a lot faster than the docs.

I got the Feature Links approach to work. Thanks for the suggestion.

I should be able to replicate the function with menus. I can menus to work if I choose default actions. Trying to mimic the Homepage default action by putting in tiki-index?page=MyPage results in the "no page indicated" The MyPage works fine as a link of the main wiki page.

If I explicitly put in an external URL, it thinks the URL is a subdirectory

current site: http://mysite.net/tikiQuestion

putting URL in menu: http://mysite.net/tiki/Questionhttp://othersite.comQuestion and obviously can't find the page.
