Blog- rss feed

Ok... i'm clueless...
ALL of this is new to me... My skills go as far as html/css and actionscripting - front end development... so please be patient with me... I am learning all of this as i go 😊

im trying to set up a "latest news" type thing on the main page... I have it setup as a module but... i'm setting up the rss feed wrong because i keep getting an xml error in the box where it should be... says "Xml error: no element found-1"

i know very little about xml (just barely enough to make a skin for WMP)

sigh... can someone tell me what it is im doing wrong...

Also, if i go to the blog that i am trying to get the feed from there is a little icon for rss feed.. i click on that and a bunch of code comes up... what am i suppose to do with that?

thanks for any help..
the clueless 😕

You shouldn't have to know anything about XML to set this up. Normally, clicking on the RSS feed icon of a blog gives you a page that displays the feed content, formatted one way or another — text with tags or formatted text, depending on how your browser handles it. It shouldn't be a bunch of code (do you mean garbage characters?).

All that is needed to set this feature up is to make a new RSS feed on the Admin RSS Modules page with the address gotten from the blog's RSS feed icon, and make a module with that RSS feed to display the feed content. If clicking on the blog's RSS feed icon produces something that isn't recognizable as your blog information and content, then something basic has gone awry. What are the details of your installation? Tiki version, server, etc.?

According to the copyrights its version 1.8.5
Server details? (sorry i don't play too much on this side... i make things purty 😉 )

um... just going to copy what I see when I click on server information 😊 don't know if any of this information is what you mean though -
General server information:
operating system - freebsd
kernel ver - 5.3 release
machine type i386
apache version - 1.3.33(unix)
perl ver - 5.8.5
php ver - 4.3.1
mysql ver - 4.0.21

thank you for taking the time to help me 😊

What happens if you make a new RSS module (on the Admin RSS Modules page)? If you go through the process of making an RSS module for a blog on your site — getting a URL something like http://www.yourdomain.com/tiki-blog_rss.php?blogId=1Question — and then click on "view" in the RSS channels table, do you see a normal-looking list of blog post titles and dates, etc.? I'm asking this because this way you avoid viewing the RSS feed directly but instead see how Tiki displays the feed as it will in a module, etc. Maybe also check how an RSS feed for articles looks — http://www.yourdomain.com/tiki-articles_rss.phpQuestion, or clicking any of the RSS icons at the bottom of the page, if these feeds have been activated.

💡 (By the way, did you turn on the RSS feeds you want to use — on Admin/RSS feeds: tiki-admin.php?page=rss ?)
