WMV attachment in forum

I'm trying to set up a sign language based tikiwiki site which principly involves allowing users to attach movies of themselves signing to forum posts.

I've got it working with mov's by modifying the tiki-view_forum_thread.tpl script to display the necessary html for streaming video with a path to tiki-download_forum_attachment.php?attId={$thread_info.attachmentsix.attId} for the video source.

When I try the same with an attached wmv the movie refuses to load. If I download the movie onto my local machine via the tiki-download_forum_attachment.php?attId={$thread_info.attachmentsix.attId} link it play fine. I then took the downloaded file and wrote the same html for the embeded streaming component and this worked as well. So it seems to be the cobination of the embeded wmv player and the source being set to tiki-download_forum_attachment.php?attId={$thread_info.attachmentsix.attId}.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

WMV is not a good solution as it would only be able to be viewed my users with MS Windows or even using Internet Explorer. You would have problems with Firefox /Mozilla and Linux / Macintosh visitors.

However, my guess is that its possible that memory_limit is causing you a problem see art82. Tiki has to load the file into system memory in order to then pass it out in a stream to the browser. This is the same for image/file/forum galleries. Its written this way for security reasons.

Id check your memory_limit variable, and if possible increase it as per that document art82

Thanks for the reply, looks like my memory limit is currently set to 8Mb and the file in question is just under 1Mb so I guess it should be okay. Any other ideas?

WMV is a bit rubbish I know, mov is the first choice but some users are WMV fanatics:)
