Architecture / Installation

Can someone please help me?

I have almost the same problem as "theweb".

I've asked a few folks here for help, but I've not received any as of yet.

If you have the knowledge to help me (and "theweb") please do. After six months of trying every "Nuke" every ASP and every open-source and commercial package there is, I really want to use Tiki. Here's my install problem.

I'm on a shared hosting account on a Linux box. I have the most recent PHP and MySQL. I don't have a Pear problem.

I've uploaded all files.

CHMOD to 777 the list of directories mentioned in the documentation.

Created an MySQL database named tiki.

Went to: www.mysite.com/tiki/tiki-install.phpQuestion and entered my
database info.

When I submit the info, Tiki returns this everytime:

Warning: fopen(db/local.php): failed to open stream: Permission
denied in /home/busypare/public_html/tiki/tiki-install.php on
line 300

Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream
resource in /home/busypare/public_html/tiki/tiki-install.php on
line 301

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream
resource in /home/busypare/public_html/tiki/tiki-install.php on
line 302

Warning: main(db/local.php): failed to open stream: No such file
or directory in /home/busypare/public_html/tiki/tiki-install.php
on line 303

Warning: main(): Failed opening 'db/local.php' for inclusion
(include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:lib/pear') in
/home/busypare/public_html/tiki/tiki-install.php on line 303

Since tiki-db.php doesn't seem to be getting updated with my info, I tried entering my database info by hand and saving it. Tiki still returned the errors.

I then removed my database info from tiki-install.db and created the file, local.php in the "db" folder. I included the same database info from tiki-db.php into local.php, i.e.

When I ran tiki-install.php, it got me to a screen that automatically created the tables in my database. It then told me I could proceed to login to Tiki.

When I went to Tiki, I had the startup screen, but it read, "you do not have permission to read this page."

I tried to login with admin/admin and I got this:

"Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/busypare/public_html/tiki/db/local.php:10) in /home/busypare/public_html/tiki/tiki-login.php on line 128"

I've tried deleting my database and re-installing. I've quadruple checked my database info, logins, etc. I've looked through the forums, the install docs and the 350 page manual. I can't find a solution and I just don't have enough knowledge to fix this myself.

Thanks for any help.

Don
P.S. Hey theweb, if you find a solution, please let me know and I'll do the same for you if I get one first.

Hey Don,

Well for this moment I've managed to get tiki working.

By 'strange' coincident my provider lost some data due to a RAID disk crash esp. my database and the fresh installed tiki folder disappeared.

I still get the same strang results with tiki-install.php, so I used PHPMyAdmin to create the database which you can find in /db/tiki.sql. The creation of the tables went fine!

I changed the information in the tiki-db.php file according the date from my provider (as I deed before with my first try) and voila, sa marche ;o) when using tiki-index.php as a start.
I most say however that I'm now working with a 'fresh' installed database and user on that database.

I received the start page to furnish my login "admin-admin" and saw the page to change the pasword!
BTW: I also saw this message 'you do not have permission...' so I putted in the admin-admin combi.

I'm now (for the time being) a happy user. But still reserved for what I will find later on: we will see then.

Probably the reason you don't get any replies is that with a first install and a database connection problem novice users probably thinks that you messed up settings!

I know I haven't, so I'm still confused why it works now at not the first time! Puzzeled still,..

I haven't don what you described because with tiki-index.php I received the message that there was no dbase, so I created the database-tables through PHPMyAdmin.

So my suggestion: drop the database and the user on that database through you're control panel of you're ISP, create a new database and user and use PHPMyAdmin to create the database-tables in you're fresh created tike database. Change the connection settings in db/tiki-db.php according the data you see in you're control panel and run /tiki-index.php. Give the the combination admin-admin and you should be up and running!

Hope this will help you!

Hey theweb!

A belated thanks for your help. Anyone who has had the same install problems I had with Tiki should read this.

I just about gave up on TikiWiki. In fact, I installed Drupal and E107 and found that I liked both of them, but they still did not offer all that Tiki does.

Actually, it was a good thing that I installed them, because I found that in my installation of Drupal, I received a very similar error message that I received in trying to install Tiki. I searched Drupal's forums and found the answer.

I am on a Linux shared hosting account and I use Cpanel to administer my account. I used the edit file ability within Cpanel to alter my Drupal config file for my database info.

After I altered the config file, I saved it and boom! The same error messages as Tiki. What I learned was that the file edit tool adds an extra blank line or two to my config file.

I went back to the config file and erased the extra lines and re-saved the config file--it worked!

I decided to try this with TikiWiki's config file. Sure enough, the file editor added an extra line and that's what caused Tiki to generate the errors. Once I erased the extra blank line, Tiki fired up without a problem.

I'm now in the process of testing out Tiki.

Thanks again, for your interest and help. I hope that my discovery will assist others.

Take care and God bless!
Don
