Clarifications about Permissions
Hi All,
Sorry I am still in the process of understanding the gazillion features and rules of Tikiwiki. I have been doing this by trial and error, sometimes.
This post deals with some permissions:
I have already decided to assign permissions to specific groups: Administrators, Editors, Community Leaders, Registered Users and Anonymous. After categorizing a Wiki page, there are default permissions arising for each category. Here are some questions:
What are the differences between the following related terms:
- "tiki_p_view" vs. "tiki_p_view_categories"?
- "tiki_p_edit" vs. "tiki_p_edit_categories"?
- "tiki_p_admin" vs. "tiki_p_view_admin_categories"?
This inquiry arose because I already activated, for example, both "tiki_p_view" and "tiki_p_view_categories" as permissions allowed to Anonymous visitors. However, here's what I have done: I decided to activate "Allow HTML" in certain pages — based from a previous post I created here.
After I have activated "Allow HTML", I found accidentally that if I try an "anonymous user", the aforementioned Wiki page (with Allow HTML) is not longer visible to "Anonymous". The only way to go around it was to grant "tiki_p_view" permission to Anonymous again (on a page-by-page basis) — (see previous paragraph why I thought this was not needed, initially).
Because Damian and Sylvie warned me about the potential danger of "Allow HTML", decided to repeat granting "permissions" to either the editor or Admin — permissions that have already been granted blanket aprroval to the said specific groups (using Admin -> Admin home -> login ->.Admin groups procedure).
Is there a way of avoiding the page-by-page process of granting the aforementioned permissions in wiki pages where "Allow HTML" has been activated?
Am I missing something???
Note that I also activated "Allow HTML" in my articles pages. However, following the caution by Damian (in another thread here), I intend the "Articles" pages to be mainly "view only" pages with only a very select few people granted edit privileges to Articles pages.
In the case of the "Articles" pages, I have not encountered the issue I observed in "Wiki" pages when I activated "Allow HTML".

N.B.
Please do not comment about the potential dangers of activating "Allow HTML". Damian already made that clear, and I am very aware of it. I will have a separate post on — Why I activated "Allow HTML", and you may help me find better solutions to the issues involving Wiki syntax and "HTML" scripting.
