Architecture / Installation

Unstability of WebSite after 3 days of installing!

posts: 21 Pakistan

Hello Friends,

Few days ago I have installed TikiWiki 1,9.4 from Fantastico at my Hosting CPanel... Because I am not a technical person so after configuring and customizing it I was very happy...! For the last two days I have done nothing with any type of customization, etc. But today suddenly I did not see the site instead I saw some error messages on my browser stating that some folders are not writable! Though it was a sudden attack which I did not expect at this stage but anyway I have corrected the fault through my FTP Client! And was able to see my site once again in perfect order. However, after one hour when I opened my computer and checked my site: http://www.abmgroup.biz I saw another error message (as follows) which I can not understand:

" Warning: session_start() function.session-start: open(/tmp/sess_b61727688ca03765ca7661f69c505f79, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /home/abmgroup/public_html/tiki-setup_base.php on line 217

Warning: session_start() function.session-start: Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at /home/abmgroup/public_html/tiki-setup_base.php:217) in /home/abmgroup/public_html/tiki-setup_base.php on line 217
header already sent "

I do not understand whether it is something because of the server or because of the script! Or possibly I have myself made some mistakes! I also can not understand whether I will be able to correct this fault and will be able to see my site once again?

The installation of the site was very easy because it was done by an Auto Installer of Fantastico. But after installing I have spent several hours during days and nights to configure and customize the site! And now at this age of 57 with weak mind and body I have no courage to start it again from the scratches!

I shall therefore be very glad if I shall get expert helpful advises and suggestions!

Certainly I also want to upgrade my site from 1.9.4 to 1.9.5 - but the lastest version is not available at Fantastico. I have downloaded the latest version from TikiWiki.Org... But I am afraid that I will destroy or delete all the contents and hard work I have done with my site if I will try to upgrade my site without any knowledge!

Your guidance in this respect will be highly appreciated.

Thanks and best regards

Well, it seems ok.
Or maybe you can turn off page caching.

Support Team of my hosting company has helped me in this respect and now the site is live again.

Many thanks for your guidance. I wish you best of luck and best regards

By default you have to run setup.sh to set all the permission that are required.

make sure that the following directories are writable:

Copy to clipboard
img/wiki img/wiki_up img/trackers modules/cache temp temp/cache templates_c maps mods

I really recommend that you upgrade to 1.9.5, because there are security issues, that are fixed only in 1.9.5 or newer.
Would be: copy over files, call tiki-install.php and run the 1.8to1.9 update script from that page, then clean the caches on the system admin page.

For the security fix only: ftp the tiki 1.9.5 file 'jhot.php' to your site (replacing the 1.9.4 version) and edit the file 'tiki-editpage.php': remove the chmod lines in there.

More details about securing tiki see here: http://tikiwiki.org/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=136

More details about Tiki 1.9.5 see here: ReleaseProcess195

Hello Friends,

I came back again with some more issues which I was not able to solve:

I have already UpGraded my site from Version 1.9.4 to 1.9.5. However, I have still got the error messages when I went to my page: http://www.abmgroup.biz/tiki-adminusers.php:

Warning: Smarty error: problem creating directory '/home/abmgroup/public_html/templates_c/en/%%4E/4EF' in /home/abmgroup/public_html/lib/smarty/libs/Smarty.class.php on line 1088

Similar Error Messages was shown at my browser when I Clicked Login ICON at my Admin Panel: http://www.abmgroup.biz/tiki-admin.php!

Another problem was faced when a new user went to Registeration Page: http://abmgroup.biz/tiki-register.php :

- He was not able to understand why he is asked for: Passcode to Register (not your user password):
- He has written several of his own Passcodes but each time he failed!
- He is now asking where from he can get that secret/hidden Passcode OR what should he write his own Passcode?
- Why this Registration Requirement is necessary?

Your further guidance is this respect will be highly appreciated.

Many thanks and best regards

Registration passcode is configurable option in the Administration:Login page. If "Request passcode to register" is checked, then users must enter the passcode to register. The registration passcode is a "secret" passcode that you would provide to people you invite to register. Unless they know the passcode, they can not register.

Uncheck this item to disable registration passcodes.

Thank you very much for your guidance. I will correct my fault soon. But at the moment I am not able to use Admin Panel because my browser is showing error messages as I mentioned in my above message!

I sincerely hope that soon I will receive some more friendly suggestions to correct these errors from other members too.

Once again I thank you for taking care of me.

Best of luck and best regrds

Could the file permissions be incorrect? Usually, the web server runs under a different user id like "nobody", "apache" or another id. When you use ftp to upload files, or extract files from an archive, they will be owned by your ftp user id, and the permissions will be set according to your umask. The webserver is attempting to create the above directory, but it cannot. I am guessing that the web server user id does not have permission.

You are right! The folder templates_c was not writeable. It is now OK. But I still think that TikiWiki is really a difficult site to manage and operate! Now I have another problem - At my Admin Page I have the following ERROR MESSAGE - Now again I am confused how can I move ahead!

Created by:

I think that you are probably having more permission problems. There is a script in the main tikiwiki directory called fixperms.sh. You can try running:

/bin/sh fixperms.sh fix

If you cannot run the script, you can view the script to see all the directories and files to check for permissions.

posts: 21 Pakistan

OH, this is too complicated for me. I am not able to understand the language. Neither I was able to run the script fixperms.sh nor was I able to understand the language of the script:

for d in $DIRS; do
find $d -type d -exec chmod 775 {} \;
find $d -type f -exec chmod 664 {} \;
chmod 664 robots.txt tiki-install.php

for d in $DIRS; do
find $d -type d -exec chmod 777 {} \;
find $d -type f -exec chmod 666 {} \;
chmod 666 robots.txt tiki-install.php

Do I have to run install.php again? In this case I will certainly lose every thing I have done with my site!

My knowledge of PHP is extremely poor. However, I have set permissions as per the suggestions I received on this Forum! Now when I checked those permissions again, I found them intact. Nevertheless the program is still showing error messages!

I am wondering whether I should remove the entire web site and go for any other simple to install script or there is still an easy to way to correct these faults and run the program without any hassle and problem!

Many thanks for your valued support and friendly cooperation.

I wish you best of luck and best regards

I am sorry that my response did not help.

the folder "temp" and the folder "temp/cache" must not be writeable. If you make them writeable, that should eliminate the error you reported. However, if there any of the following folders are not writeable, then you may hit still experience other permission problemss: backups db dump img/wiki img/wiki_up img/trackers modules/cache temp temp/cache templates_c templates styles maps whelp mods

However, if you don't have much experience with unix, you may want to only use software that is automatically installed by your hosting service. That way, you will always be able to get tech support from the hosting service.

Good luck.

It was not your fault. I feel sorry that I have not learnd these important technologies. Anyway I can still do little things like chnaging CHMOD etc.

I am managing several domains and websites of my own and my business friends. My domains are hosted at five different web hosting companies. All of them replied to me that they do not provide support for third party scripts - not even for those scripts which are offered by their own CPanel (Fantastico)!

I sincerely thank you very much for your useful guidance. Now my site is responding correctly and I hope that there will be no more problems in future.

My warmest regards to you and your family.

I'm glad to hear that the site is now working, and I'm glad that we were able to help.
