I'm kinda in the same boat - I plan on using this until better shows. I think the key here is to help support TikiWiki by asking for those changes that you want.

I would make sure you are backing up the information - post it to the wiki - but then make an export. Worst you'll have to do is recreate the page designs and layouts - copy/paste all the info again.

For now, dive in and start your Wiki.
