Re : beginner shocked about available themes :(

Gary,

I didn't want to offend the people that make the themes. Simply, at first I expected the themes to contain more aspects of the configuration. It looks now that the "templates" are also one way to customize tiki. See http://doc.tiki.org/TemplatesQuestion for more (and there is a link back to ... themes as well). So I believe the issue is more one of coherency in documentation, and probably more importantly keeping it up to date, I frequently see pages with references to "1.8" etc.

Maybe someone like Marc Laporte should (convince the community to) decide to declare some "old versions" unsupported or define a way to clean" the pages by remove/move all the "pre 3.6" documentation.

Regarding how to be different, I finally got my site working, and I'm playing with some settings, but it is incredibly more complex than bitweaver, I get the impression that tiki is closer to a "registry" with many variables and the admin tool being some UI layer on top. Not a bad idea, but the trouble is that I can't easily keep track of all the parameters I modify, and I just started !
