Every Tiki release sees new functionalities in Trackers and this one is no exception. For example, there is a new barcode/QR code field type that will be useful in logistics systems, etc. Also, the file upload interface for the File field has been significantly enhanced, with automatic gallery creation. ⚙️ New tools and methods for administrators
In the area of privacy and compliance, Tiki 29 features an overhauled Cookie Consent Management system with granular user controls; support for WebAuthn authentication, enabling passkey-based log-ins. Useability is improved for both setup and daily authentication, with new changes in the Log-in module, including Two-Factor Authentication, and a custom registration page option.
Other backend and administration upgrades include enhanced logging with Monolog featuring failed login tracking and flexible output options.
😎 Modernization and Infrastructure
Evolution for improvement is always a priority for the infrastructure of Tiki code development. For the release of Tiki 29 this has included migration away from composer.tiki.org for more modernized package sourcing. Other upgrades include migration to Symfony Mailer, replacing legacy Laminas Mail for better email handling, and upgrading to Vite 7 and Vitest, enhancing frontend performance and testing, and headless Chrome integration is improved in Tiki 29.
🧹 Removals and cleanups
Removal of deprecated features included Tiki Accounting, ADOdb, jQuery UI, and CKEditor 4. A mass cleanup across 15+ files reduced technical debt and improved maintainability.
⚠️ Important notes for upgraders
As noted above, the WYSIWYG editor has changed from CKEditor 4 to Summernote. Please test thoroughly before upgrading. Also, cookie consent logic has been revamped so privacy settings should be reviewed.
