At the most recent TikiFest in Ottawa, Canada, several Tiki Community members met to socialize and contribute their talents to the future of Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware. For four days (August 15 - 18), the attendees (including several remote participants) discussed, planned, and coded many features and enhancements planned for Tiki 6.

The TikiFest ended with a wine-and-cheese social at the Code Factory in Ottawa, hosted by Citadel Rock, Blindside Networks, Pondstone Communications, and AvanTech.net, all of whom are active participants in the Tiki and BigBlueButton communities.

The cornerstone of the TikiFest was to improve the integration between Tiki and BigBlueButton that was first introduced in Tiki 5. Additionally, a full day of the event was reserved for various internationalization (i18n) topics, including:

• Establishing a collaborative multilingual glossary
• Creating a translation server
• Making it easier for the Tiki Community to contribute translations

Did you know that two very exciting Open Source software products for web conferencing, online social collaboration/media have strong roots in Ottawa? On Wednesday August 18th at 6PM, web development companies, systems integrators, designers, developers and open source enthusiasts will be gathering at The Code Factory in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada for a wine and cheese networking event.

You are invited to come learn how Tiki and BigBlueButton are leading the way in the online world of Collaboration and Communication and meet some of the developers and companies that work with these great products.

The most recent TikiFest recently ended in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain) on July 18. At this TikiFest, the second in Barcelona, more than 20 Tiki developers, consultants, and end-users met (including others via video conference) to work to improve and upgrade Tiki features, as well as to discuss the future of Tiki development.

Led by long-time Tiki Community members (including some board members of the Tiki Software Community Association) Marc (marclaporte), Louis-Philippe (lph), Jean-Marc (jyhem), Jonny (jonnyb) and Xavi (xavi), great progress was made for the next major Tiki release. Tiki 6, planned for October 2010), will include many of the items discussed and coded during this TikiFest, such as:

• Payment system using "CCLite" (a free software web application to support Community Currency management within and among barter networks)
• Fixing encoding issues (when upgrading Tiki under certain specific scenarios)
• Cron-like features (such as automatically changing tracker item status and sending email users if their tracker items do change within a specific amount of time. This is especially useful for Barter networks and Bug Trackers.
• Identifying ways (through the Newsletters and Group Watches featurse) to allow Tiki site administrators to easily distribute content to users, while allowing the users an option to unsubscribe
• New profile "Easy Blog" to easily install common blogging features (such as blog archives, image headers, etc.) for Tiki sites (http://profiles.tikiwiki.org/Easy+Blog )

The TikiFest, a tradition of the Tiki community, is a meeting between Tiki contributors (that usually only meet online). This is an opportunity to socialize, code wildly in group sessions, discuss wiki technology and culture, and plan the future of Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware. It is also a great opportunity for Tiki users to meet Tiki developers, and for each group to learn from the other.

Several Tiki community members will be active participants at the upcoming Make Web Not War 2010 (MWNW), a Canadian cross-platform web conference that takes place May 27, 2010 in Montréal, Canada.

Tiki is a Community Partner of the event and will be featured as one of six web application demos during the Ignite Presentations (http://www.webnotwar.ca/schedule/).

Announcing the first ever TikiFest in New York City being held from January 14-18, 2010!
tw:TikiFestNY is a big bug squash! The idea is to knock out as many bugs as possible and have as much fun as possible doing it. If a bug takes more than 30 minutes to fix, then we move on to the next one. Also, invites will be going out locally for an introduction to Tiki presentation on Saturday afternoon followed by refreshments. Hope lots of people can make it! TikiFest London Summer 2009 will take place on August 15-16, 2009 and will serve as a follow-up to the great work achieved in Barcelona during TikiFest Workspaces and Social Networking which ended August 9.

A tradition in the TikiWiki community, a TikiFest is when there is a meeting between contributors that don't usually meet. This is an opportunity, usually, to drink adult beverages, get some laptops out and code wildly in group sessions and/or discuss about wiki technology and culture, etc. depending the mood and context. It is a great opportunity for Tiki users and Tiki power users to meet some of the developers and learn more stuff 😊

This TikiFest will be our longest (10 days!)
