RSS issues v1.9.2

Hi,

I've just completed an upgrade from v1.7.5 to 1.9.2. and I'm pleased with the way it's gone but have encountered a problem with the outgoing RSS Feeds. They display just fine (see exampleQuestion) but as you can see each link is referring to comments_parentId=0 rather than to the relevant forum item, and when this is followed the following error appears:

Warning: mysql error: Got error 28 from table handler in query:

select tc1.`threadId`, tc1.`object`, tc1.`objectType`, tc1.`parentId`, tc1.`userName`, tc1.`commentDate`, tc1.`hits`, tc1.`type`, tc1.`points`, tc1.`votes`, tc1.`average`, tc1.`title`, tc1.`data`, tc1.`hash`, tc1.`user_ip`, tc1.`summary`, tc1.`smiley`, tc1.`message_id`, tc1.`in_reply_to`, tc1.`comment_rating` from `tiki_comments` as tc1
left outer join `tiki_comments` as tc2 on tc1.`in_reply_to` = tc2.`message_id`
where tc1.`objectType` = ? and tc1.`object`=? and tc1.`parentId`=? and tc1.`average`>=?
and (tc1.`in_reply_to` = ?
or (tc2.`in_reply_to` = "" or tc2.`in_reply_to` is null or tc2.message_id is null or tc2.parentid = 0))

order by tc1.`commentDate` desc,tc1.`threadId`

I'm not sure if this is an issue related to the upgrade or a known problem in 1.9.2 but I'm wondering whether it's related to the database itself or is a problem in the page code for tiki-forum_rss, or the setup for my tiki? Any clues? I'm really not very familiar with XML and quite confused about where exactly the problem lies!

Cheers,

Jacob

Hi

Cheers for the pm 😉

When you upgrade from 1.7 to 1.8 you are required to run two additional SQL files comments fix and structurefix

What you need to do is restore back to the 1.7.5 database backup you made before you upgraded.

Run the 1.7to1.8.sql, then the commentsfix.sql then the structurefix.sql then the 1.7to1.8.sql again for good measure
Now run the 1.8to1.9.sql and if you have it the 1.9to.1.9.2.sql

Do not run commentsfix or structurefix more than once or at any other stage as data lost and corruption will occur.

Cheers

Damian

Hi Damian,

Thanks for this. Is there any way I can do it without going back to v1.7.5? Even if it's fiddly and takes a while...

I've noticed that the database table tiki_comments has the fields:

  • threadId - eg '1345' - refers to the identy of the post
  • object - eg '2' appears to refer to the forum itself
  • objectType - eg 'Forum' - identifes the thread as part of a forum...
  • parentId - I would have thought refers to the forum number but in my case is blank.

The strange thing is, I just took a look at a completely fresh install of 1.9.2 and from I can see the problem with RSS Display and database structure is exactly the same... Does this imply that it's not necessarily my structure which is the problem?

Is there a way of amending the file tiki-forum_rss.php to correct it?

Thanks again.

Jacob

Okay, I have a neat little workaround for this problem.

Issue
URL in Tiki RSS Feeds for forums and individual forums should direct to address of the format, 'tiki-view_forum_thread.php?forumId=x&comments_parentId=y' but actually directs to 'tiki-view_forum_thread.php?forumId=x&comments_parentId=0'

Solution
You need to make 2 identical changes to the 2 files tiki-forum_rss and tiki-forums_rss.

  • Replace $param = "parentId"; with $param = "threadId";
  • Replace $readrepl = "tiki-view_forum_thread.php?$id=%s&comments_$param=%s"; with $readrepl = "tiki-view_forum_thread.php?$id=%s&$param=&comments_parentId=%s";

This is purely a workaround solution but thanks go to my friend Alistair for his help and time with this.
