Need help with fatal error

Hi - I am a relative novice with tikiwiki and I've run into a little problem I need some help with. I was experimenting with the Site Identity feature, specifically the "Sites Ads and Banners" option. I checked the check box to use the option and in the content box meant to type in because I immediately received the error: Fatal error: Smarty error: in evaluated template line 1: syntax error: unrecognized tag 'bannder' (Smarty_Compiler.class.php, line 583) in /home/hbctoday/public_html/wiki/lib/smarty/libs/Smarty.class.php on line 1095

I've spent about an hour searching for the .tpl file where this mispelling exists to I can correct it but can't find it (I am assuming that is the problem). I also can't figure out how to log back in to tiki in as an admin to undo the error that way.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Update to my original post - I figured out how to get it back - no need to respond....

I Mevins, I guess you could have set your tiki back to normal work again through using "phpmyadmin" (or similar) to search for that wrong code in your database (I guess it's there where it was saved)

Could you please share your solution? (this would help other people that hit similar troubles and looks for answers searching in tw forums ...

And welcome to Tikiwiki community! 😊

Xavi

Xavi,

Thanks for the reply and the welcome. Well I (wrongly) assumed that the mispelled "bannder" must be in a .tpl file, so I downloaded all the .tpl files from the web server onto my PC and searched them using a desktop search tool called "X1". If you've never heard of it I highly recommend - it's free and can be downloaded from www.x1.com.Question Anyway (apparently because that is stored in the database), none of the template files had that word in them. But in searching through them I did find one that had the following statement:

{if $feature_sitead eq 'y' && ($sitead_publish eq 'y' or $tiki_p_admin eq 'y')}{eval var=$sitead}{/if}

{* optional ads (banners) *}
{/if}

That file was called tiki-site_header.tpl

So I figured that if I just renamed this file to something else so that tiki couldn't find it, the code that caused the fatal error wouldn't get executed. Maybe I'd get a non-fatal error that would at least allow me to log in as admin, go to the Site Identity Admin panel and fix my misspelling. That worked - the formating on the page wasn't perfect, but at least I could go in and fix it, and then rename tiki-site_header.tpl back and everything is now good.

Hope that helps someone else who makes that same dumb mistake.

Rick

Welcome Rick. Thanks for reporting your solution. Cheers
