Problem with RSS feed

Hi

Have installed Tiki, running on Windows 2003 server. Excellent really impressed, learning more and more.

However, have tried to set RSS feed, using Feedreader 3.1 on my desktop when try and accept the feed I get the following message
“Tiki RSS Feed Error Message: Permission denied you cannot view this section???
I have had a poke around various documentation on the subject on the tiki site. Came up with htaccess as being a potential problem, something about disabling.. hum! Had word with the boys and girls whos company host the software. There tell me htaccess is not support by windows and to remove the file as this will cause a conflict. I browse the folders and codes the htaccess 'beast' is everywhere, ok in more than one place.

Just as an aside I can easily set up RSS feed from this site, so problem is associated with how I either have configured Tiki or the server compatibility issue.

So what to do any one any ideas as how I should proceed.

Cheers
Steve

For which Tiki feature (wiki, blog, articles, forum, etc.) are you trying to create an RSS feed? Do you have the correct permissions (see the docs, hereQuestion) to allow Anonymous access?

Hi rick

Thanks for your help.
I, as the administrator, have set under admin home, the RSS to enable.
However, the way I am using tiki is to host multiple groups , I therefore use permissions to restrict access of the group to the users assigned. Everything appears to be working well group members log on and are taken to the respective group home page. Each group has tools assigned i.e. Blog, forum, wiki image gallery, file gallery and calender.

But because I have to administer what is a large number of groups and will expand I thought I would try and set the RSS feed to inform when material is up loaded wiki's edited etc. In an ideal world I would like to draw feeds from the specific group e.g group A has a blog A I get a feed directly related to this. This would then allow the consortia members using the extranet to do the same as myself.

So to answer your point, I think I have permissions and I would like to think as administrator I can access all groups blogs etc where as I have restricted the rss feed of users to their group. You mentioned anonymous this leads me to believe my ideal way of administering the feeds cannot work.

However, given I cannot get past access denial I not able to work out if it is possible.
Therefore the question is RSS feed anonymous for the entire site I mean all the blog changes associated with all the groups will be reported in on blog RSS feed for example?
Many thanks for you time it is appreciated
cheers
Steve

The feeds require anonymous READ access to the feature. So, if you have an RSS feed for the wiki, you must give Anonymous viewers the ability to read the wiki. You can have a single RSS feed for all your blogs, and specific feeds for each individual blog. However, you still need to give the Anonymous group READ access to the blogs.

Think of it this way... if you don't grant Anonymous access to the feature, how can you expect anonymous (non-logged in) access to the feed. AFAIK there's no way to "log in" in order to read an RSS feed.

If all you want is to give users notification each time something changes (i.e., a new post in a blog, a new image uploaded to a gallery, a wiki page changes, etc.) just use the WATCHES feature.
