Link to new Wiki page doesn't become a link after creating and saving the new page.

We've been creating a long list of new wiki pages (all on one original page).
http://pocketprogressive.org/tiki-index.php?page=Framing+Republican+Votes+for+2011+Legislative+Budget

After about 15 new pages, Tiki stopped updating the referring link to additional new pages and still shows the ?

If you click the ? it takes you into edit mode and shows the content we placed there earlier, so the pages exist and can be edited but the original link never gets updated.

I can manualy add a link of the page name surrounded by double parentheses and that link looks and works fine. For "Bob Dettmer" I left the busted link intact and added the page name surrounded by double parentheses.

For Connie Doepke, juts below, I deleted the ? and added double parentheses around her name.

I did these above two in the regular wysiwyg.

For Keith Downey I didn't mess with anything and in Source it shows this inside the link carets:

a class="wiki wikinew" href="tiki-editpage.php?page=Keith+Downey,+House+District+41A" title="Create page: Keith Downey, House District 41A"

So it's still showing that a new page needs to be created.

Again the pages exist but the link never gets made.

OK, I've been working on this so the example above won't show what I noted. Wiki still will not make a link on the referring page. Essentially I'm manually putting in the link.

As long as the new page has some text on it and has been saved then I can go back to the referring page and delete the question mark and put double parentheses around the link and it works.

Sometimes the question mark doesn't want to quite delete (I notice my double parentheses where the ? was turn blue like a link) so I just make sure they're black and save.

Wish Tiki would go back to doing this for me!

It's quite tedious to be doing this. Does anyone know why Tiki will not create a link to the new page from the referring page?

Hi Unclegeo,

does this happen with links contained in *newly* created wiki pages (that is, with their Version 1)?

Or do you also observe this behaviour with links placed in later versions of a wiki page?

I'm asking because we make heavy use of the semantic link feature and noted that semantic links are not properly treated in *newly* created wiki pages.

(That is, semantic links don't show up in the semantic link admin panel when they're already placed in Version 1 of a wiki page. If they're added later, the feature runs fine.)

Take care,
– jp

JP, thanks for the reply!

Yes. On newly created pages.

If I edit the pages (i.e., get them to V2 or farther) the links sometimes update but not always.

Also, even on new pages -say I create 10 links to new pages one after another on the referring page, they'll initially be missing the link after I save the referring page but then I come back in and hour and reload and maybe half will now have links -but it's not consistent -sometimes I get nada.

And might I ask you for a quick explanation of what Semantic Links are and how I might use them? I don't quite get it and I'd be much obliged for a brain nudge.

Hi Unclegeo,

regarding the inconsistent behavior when creating the usual Wiki-links, you should check if emptying the TikiCache leads to more predictable results.

You'll find the TikiCache admin panel by calling tiki-admin_system.php (append this to your installation's URL).

Click the waste baskets to empty the respective cache.

If this causes the disregarded links to be properly updated afterwards, then we at least know that something is wrong here (though knowing so alone will of course not solve the problem in itself).

Which Tiki version do you use, btw? –

Regarding semantic links, pls. see

Semantic links let you define the precise meaning (= semantic) of links between two pages. That is, you not only indicate »Those two pages are somehow related« like you would do with a usual link, but you would state that (for example)

  • Dodo –––is-a–––) Bird
    • Reverse: Dodo (–––has-instance––– Bird

or

  • Foo Inc. –––owns-shares-of–––) Bar Ltd.
    • Reverse: Foo Inc. (–––owned-by––– Bar Ltd.

or

  • Peter –––has-daughter–––) Mary
    • Reverse: Peter (–––has-parent––– Mary

or

  • OR –––abreviates–––) Oregon
    • Reverse: OR (–––abreviated––– Oregon

Another way to conceive of semantic links is to imagine them as being »typed links«.

One of Tiki's modules presents the semantic links contained in the wiki page currently displayed (in addition to them being displayed like usual links in the page's running text).

We use this module, naming it »Kurzinfo« (german for »quick info«, or »short info«).

But if me manage to export the semantic links from Tiki or the database,

then we could easily use GraphViz,

to visualize the semantic link data as a graphical semantic network like in this article:

Nice, right? =;-)

Take care,

Hi Unclegeo,

can I ask you again which version of Tiki you are using?

Have you filed a bug report yet??

Reason I'm asking is that I was able to reproduce the issue you described with Tiki 7.2 (the current release of Tiki). More precisly, the same issue that you encounter with the usual links also happens with semantic links.

Thx,
– jp

BBrash, you are awesome. Thanks. I'll go looking at the Semantic links info and learn!

It looks like all the links are working now! I'll watch as we create more pages. Another recent funky-thang is that occasionally some of the buttons don't work (save, upload, etc.). This seems to have cleared up in the last coupla weeks. Don't know why.

I'm using Tiki 7.1 (Elecktra!). I'll probably upgrade to 7.2 when Simple Scripts in my Blue Host control panel lets me.

If these clues are of any help: I've had issues upgrading almost every time I've upgraded from 4.5 onwards (I've been using Tiki since V 1.2). It seems to be a problem with the Simple scripts installer at the server that keeps it's own file of what version you have. No matter what the Blue Host guys do for me, the next time I upgrade, Simple Scripts tells me it can't upgrade because I'm back at V4.5 -I call BH and we make it OK again.

I've also had issues where I'd upgrade and it would tell me I needed to upgrade the database, I would, it would say it couldn't update this or that value in a table and after a few more tries it stopped bugging me and things worked.
