Perhaps problem is based on the php.ini file.
Look there for
; Magic quotes for incoming GET/POST/Cookie data.
magic_quotes_gpc = On

; Magic quotes for runtime-generated data, e.g. data from SQL, from exec(), etc.
magic_quotes_runtime = Off

and try different settings. I am not sure if you need to restart apache to bring changes into effect.
