Just as an additional clue.

The file route.php has been causing problems on my server during this time as well.

Whenever a user with admin privileges tries to log in this file starts to hog server resources (maybe a redirect
loop).

Also, if anyone knows, is there a way to change group privileges through the database? I have looked and cannot see any table that links groups with their privileges?
